Alicia Ortiz Eiland

Alicia Ortiz Eiland, affectionately known as "Mamo," passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, at age 90. She lived with her son, Stephen, in Albuquerque's Historic Barelas Neighborhood.

Born January 1, 1935, in Santa Fe, Alicia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and warmth touched everyone she met. Her vibrant spirit and generous heart knew no boundaries.

She had a remarkable career as Executive Vice President of the New Mexico Educators Credit Union (now Nusenda), where she helped transform a single office into a thriving organization serving thousands across the state. An accomplished singer, she once performed with big bands in Puerto Rico, filling venues with her graceful voice.

Her Catholic faith guided her daily life of compassion and service. Friends and family remember her as loving, funny, lead-footed behind the wheel, and endlessly kind.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Edwin Eiland; her daughter, Donna Anne Sanford; and her son, William King Eiland. She is survived by her son, Stephen Anthony Eiland, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Fe, followed by interment at Santa Fe National Cemetery beside her husband.
