Alison Marie Perry

Alison Perry made some of the best cookies ever! Yes, she achieved many other accomplishments, but the quality, appeal and taste of her cookies cannot be overstated.

Alison’s life in this world began in Port Chester, NY on Monday, September 21, 1953. Cheers to a great New Year’s Eve party nine months earlier at the end of 1952. She was the third of seven children to Norman J. Shrout, Sr. and Verna R. Shrout. Soon after her birth, the growing family moved to rolling hill farm country in upstate NY, where daily chores were a requirement and life was wholesome.

In addition to baking, Alison, aka “Al” to her family, also became a gifted culinarian, able to host amazing dinner extravaganzas, especially during the holidays. This genuine spirit of giving further highlighted her knack for making everyone feel welcome. She also expressed many other talents over the years, including prowess at softball, waitressing and gardening. Her best skill turned out to be banking, which turned into her true vocation for over forty years in Cleveland, OH. You could say that Alison was driven; she committed her absolute best to everything she tried, which included the sharing of her unending love with her family.

Early in her career, she met the love of her life, Michael Perry, Sr., who always encouraged his wife to pursue her passions. Together, they parented a son, Michael Jr., who eventually married his best friend, Shellie in New Mexico. Being farm-raised, Alison had a natural affinity for pets and parented Eek and Felix the cats, as well as Dakota the dog in the earlier days while living in Ohio.

Fast forwarding to Alison’s semi-retirement, the entire family moved to Albuquerque, NM to live close to her siblings Norman & Marilyn. Here, she dabbled in project management at a local pet supply store, owned by her brother. Her strength of character and exemplary work ethic made her the perfect supervisory addition to this growing business with so many young employees. She also added new generation fur-family member, Kibble the dog, from a rescue organization called ARGOS. 

Several years later, at only 70, the tragic terminal diagnosis came crashing down on Alison’s world. Just three years prior, her beloved husband Mike had preceded her in death. So, it was up to her siblings, her son, and their significant others as well as her close friends to help her face this battle. 

As her health began to fade, family and friends consistently flocked to her side demonstrating their love and offering words of comfort. Despite the disease progression, Alison maintained a positive attitude and certainly never lost her sense of humor. On June 8, 2024, she shed her earthly pain to make her graceful and peaceful exit. Forever free, she is likely baking cookies for others in Heaven to enjoy. 

Besides her husband, Alison is also predeceased by her four grand-parents; her parents, Norman and Verna and her sister, Barbara. She is survived by her five siblings, Marilyn, Stephen, Joanne, William and Norman as well as her son, Michael and his wife, Shellie.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024; 4:00 p.m., at FRENCH -Wyoming, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE, 87109. We welcome all friends to respectfully gather in her honor, visit with her family and share their thoughts as well as condolences.
