Allan Day Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Indiana on Feb. 11, 2026.
Allan William Day

Born October 1, 1938 to Irene and Julius Day II in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the eldest of three

boys. Allan was very proud of his service with the U.S. Marine Corps and often shared the

tales and adventures of seeing the world through the eyes of a young man.

On November 5, 1960, Allan married the love of his life Joanna (Tyler) Day. Eventually

they moved to Chardon, Ohio, where together they built their dream house with a small

farm, raising two children. They formed a marriage rooted in faith, partnership, laughter

and unwavering support. Recently, Allan and Joanna celebrated their 65th Anniversary.

Allan was an extremely hard worker, who held a variety of jobs over the years, honing his

skillset. In his late 40's, he started a business restoring Century homes in Ohio and in

Indianapolis. Later, as an independent contractor, he took on a two year endeavor from a

California manufacturing firm relocating to Ohio. The scope of work was retrofitting an

abandoned World War II defense complex. He was very proud of this project.

Allan was active in many community projects with the Jaycees in Mentor and Chardon,

OH and the Chardon Kiwanis. He was a committed volunteer, gleaning for Third Phase

in Noblesville, IN. His greatest joy was finding ways to provide the service of himself to

help people. Those who knew him, often spoke of his kind and gentle manner and how

much he cared for others. Allan never stopped moving and was always cheerful and

happy. He loved gardening and tending to a variety of in/outdoor plants. He had a very

green thumb and would beam brightly when coaxing amazing blooms and blossoms.

His family brought him much joy. He loved his children and grandchildren immensely.

Allan is survived by the love of his life, Joanna, their beloved daughter Adrienne Day,

caring son-in-law Jeff Haigerty and his treasured grandchildren Koby and Irene (aka

Jzo) Haigerty; who reside in Portland, Oregon and his youngest brother, Julius in

Strongsville, Ohio. In 2003, he was preceded in death by his son Gregory Clifford, who

suffered with MS for 29 years. Allan's parents and brother Richard predeceased him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National MS Society or American Heart

Association. A Celebration of life will be held on February 28 with visitation at 1 pm and service

at 2:00 pm, at Horizon Christian Fellowship, 7702 Indian Lake Road, Indianapolis, IN 46236.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cremation Society of Indiana.

I will miss talking to you and Joanna about your garden and your home remodeling experiences. I am very impressed with your remodeling efforts. Your daughter lives in Portland OR where my father was raised. We have a common experience with Mt. Tabor Park. I remember your Friday evening schedule on public radio. We enjoyed Indiana Week in Review and would compare notes on what we saw. We hope Joanna can again participate in the Shepherd Center programming.
