Allan Cay Doerner Sr., a cherished member of the Painesville community and beloved patriarch of the Doerner family, passed into eternal life on March 16, 2025 at Hospice of the Western Reserve. He was 97 years old. Born July 20, 1927 in Painesville, Allan's journey through nearly a century was marked by service, love and a steadfast dedication to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
Allan grew up in Painesville and was a resident of Lake County most of his life. He was a 1945 graduate of Harvey High School and enlisted in the United States Navy immediately after graduation. Following Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he then entered Ohio State University. During Spring Break from OSU, he had a temporary job with the Painesville Post Office. His duties included delivering mail to Lake County Memorial Hospital, where he met Beverly Jane Harper. They were married March 20, 1948.
Allan was known for his skilled hand in accounting. This served him well, working as Office and/or General Manager at Bill Smith Oldsmobile, Earl Evans Chevrolet, Eppy's Chevrolet in Canton, and Roulette Pontiac. He also co-owned with wife Beverly the Wishing Well at the GLM and Bev's Hallmark Stores in Mentor and Madison. These two busy people love to dance, especially at Swingo's every weekend and were together until her passing in 2015.
Allan was baptized in the Methodist Church as a child. He was a member of the Painesville Elks Lodge BPOE#509 and managed their accounting for years. Allan loved and took great pride in caring for his property, mowing acres of grass on his small tractor. His love for animals shone through his many years of raising and showing AKC certified Rough Collies. He also enjoyed collecting stamps, as did his father. Up until last Fall, he was still working the daily Soduko puzzle in the News Herald. He was an avid sports fan and loved all sports, but especially the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is preceded in death by his wife and soulmate Beverly J.(nee:Harper), sons Allan C (Louanne) Doerner, Jr. and Douglas C. Doerner, his parents Edward and Helen (nee: Cay), brother Ted and sister Norene.
