Allan Morgan Obituary

Allan Harold Morgan was born on December 19, 1943, in Fairfax, Oklahoma, and passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. Allan was the second of four children born to Harold and Irene (Adams) Morgan.

During his childhood, Allan attended elementary and junior high schools in Gray Horse, Oklahoma; Palco, Kansas; and Sidney, Nebraska. The family eventually settled in Ellinwood, Kansas, where Allan graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1962. A gifted athlete, Allan lettered in football, basketball, track, and baseball. Beyond sports, he naturally stepped into leadership roles and was remembered by classmates and teachers alike for his kindness, intelligence, and quiet respect for others.

Following high school, Allan attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas, where he lettered in football and tennis and again demonstrated strong leadership through campus organizations. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Kansas Wesleyan University and later completed his Master’s degree at Kansas State University.

It was while he was at Kansas Wesleyan that he met the love of his life, Patsy Rawson. As Allan often said, the best thing that ever happened to him was marrying Patsy on August 14, 1965. Together they raised two children, Kristal and Kirk, creating a life rooted in faith, devotion, shared purpose, and laughter.

Allan began his teaching career in Smith Center, Kansas, but it was interrupted in January 1968 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served at the 2nd General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany, and received an early discharge in 1969 to teach at Kaiserslautern Military Base.

In 1970, Allan returned to the United States and made Rawlins, Wyoming his home, dedicating the next 38 years to teaching junior high and high school students. A devoted educator, mentor, and leader, Allan’s influence reached generations of students. During his career, he coached football and track, taught math and physical education, and served as Activities Director for 13 years. Whether cheering from the sidelines, supporting students on stage or in concert, or simply hyping up the students and making a “hair-raising” experience at the pep assemblies, Allan took great pride in being a Rawlins Outlaw. His commitment was recognized in 1997, when he was named Activities Director of the Year. But the truth is, his favorite honor was just being called “Coach Morgan.”

Allan retired from teaching in 2008, and he and Patsy moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Allan enjoyed sports, travel, square dancing, and exercise, but he especially cherished his quiet summer days spent at Seminoe Lake. He was an active and proud member of the United Methodist Church and attended regularly, except for the days that the fish were really biting.

While Allan found joy in many pursuits, his greatest happiness came from his family. He cherished being the father of Kristal and Kirk, delighted in his role as grandfather to Kira, Jayce, Ashton, Mackenzie, and Mackai, and to being the great-grandfather to Rowan, Adi, and Charles. At the center of it all was his beloved wife, Patsy, with whom he not only walked hand in hand with, but danced through life with, for 60 years.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Morgan of Cheyenne, Wyoming; daughter Kristal (Richard) Edwards of Franklin, Ohio; son Kirk (Corine) Morgan of Cheyenne, Wyoming; grandchildren Jayce (Evie) Morgan of Glendale, Arizona; Kira (Chance) Lowmaster of Beaumont, Kansas; Ashton (Mike) Vanderdrink of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mackenzie (Bryton) Winchell of Pensacola, Florida; Makai (Ashley) Carrigan of Jacksonville, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren Rowan, Adi, Charles, and Orion (due in July). Additionally, he is survived by his brother Don (Mary Lou) Morgan, his sister Barb Demott, his sister-in-law Peggy Geiman, his brothers-in-law Bill (Louise) Rawson, and Bob (Diana) Rawson, sister-in-law Bobbie Rawson, and numerous nieces, nephews and other important family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Irene Morgan; his sister, Linda Sue; his in-laws, Bud and Nyla Rawson; his brothers-in-law, Dean Geiman and Dick Rawson.

Services will be held on March 19, at 11:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
