Allen T. Carlin, Jr., 92, of Selmer, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on November 21, 2024. Born on October 9, 1932, in Hardeman County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Allen Theodore Carlin, Sr., and Lessie D. Taylor Carlin.
On July 23, 1958, Allen was united in marriage to his cherished wife, Martha Ann Jones. Together they built a loving family and shared many joyful memories.
Allen proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, a testament to his dedication and commitment to his country. Throughout his career, Allen worked for several companies, including Kimberly Clark in Memphis, Frosted Foods - Counce Truck Line, and the Brown Shoe Factory F in Selmer. He also found fulfillment in logging from 1970 to 1999, embracing the outdoors and his love for nature.
A devoted family man, Allen worked tirelessly to provide for his loved ones. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, often found tending to his garden, riding his tractor, or caring for his pets and horses. He was also a fan of "Wheel of Fortune" and enjoyed solving word search puzzles, finding joy in these simple pleasures.
Mr. Carlin is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Ann Carlin; three daughters: Debbie Carlin Clayton and husband Tim, Wanda Carlin and good friend Robbie Richards, and Barbara Carlin Forsyth and husband Tim, all of Selmer, TN.
He will be greatly missed by his four grandchildren—Christie (Clayton) Killingsworth and husband Adam, Michael Forsyth, Amanda (Forsyth) Howell and husband Tommy, and Laura Grace (Clayton) Bivens and husband Cody—and his four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Howell, Adalynne Grace and Titus Cade Killingsworth;
two brothers, William Carlin and wife Joan, and Donald Carlin and wife June, both of Selmer, TN; a sister-in-law, Jackie Carlin of Pocahontas, TN; lifelong friends Jetta Forsythe and Nelson Siler -he worked at Brown Shoe Factory F in Selmer, TN with both of them; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Allen was preceded in death by his son, Allen Dale Carlin; his sister, Jean (Carlin) Busby and husband John; and a brother, John Carlin.
Allen T. Carlin, Jr. will be lovingly remembered for his generosity, strong work ethic, and deep devotion to his family and friends. His legacy of love and hard work will continue to inspire all who knew him.
