Allen married the love of his life, Barbara Hammond of Beaconsfield, IA on August 17, 1952. Allen was 18, Barb was 16 and they were married 63 years, until she passed in 2015. Al and Barb followed his Uncle Miles to Wichita for job opportunities, and Wichita became their forever home. Al and Barb started their family with the birth of Craig in 1954 and Denise in 1961. Allen enjoyed hunting and was a quick-draw competitor in his early days, but the hobbies they enjoyed together were where the memories were made. They enjoyed fishing in Canada, camping with friends, bowling, golfing, playing pitch, pinochle, and bridge. However, his passion and claim to fame was square dancing. After they learned to dance, Allen wanted to become a square dance caller, and they traveled the country doing that. Allen was an accomplished caller, and loved every minute of it!
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Ivah, his sister, Elsie Ashburn, his wife, Barbara, his son, Craig and five nephews. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Craig Lipsey, his daughter-in-law, Sue Coffman, four grandchildren, Justin, Ciara, Alison and Chase, three great-granddaughters, Memphis Rose, Charleigh Rose and Sophia Craig, along with a nephew and five nieces.
