Allen Ernest Matchett, 78, of Peavy Falls Rd. passed away Friday, March 1, 2024, at his home.
Allen was born August 29, 1945, in Sagola Twp., son of the late Steven and Mary (Herzog) Matchett. He married Sylvia Anderson on August 28, 1965, at the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain. Allen worked in the woods for his brother-in-law, "Porky" Jacobson for over 20 years before working for Dickinson County, both at the parks and the courthouse, before retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing guitar and tinkering on small engines, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Allen is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his children, Doug (Mel) Matchett and Jim (Kristina) Matchett; grandchildren, Levi Matchett and Steven Matchett (Kira Peters); a great-granddaughter, Ember Rae Matchett; 6 siblings, Laura Jacobson, Dorothy Martin, Margaret (Les) Loper, Maryann Matchett, Patricia Bergeron and Dan (Eileen) Matchett; and a brother-in-law, Brian Starnes.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by 6 siblings, June (Bob) Bozile, Marge (Bill) Lysel, Shirley Starnes, James (Jolie) Matchett, Frank Matchett, and Dennis Matchett; and 3 brothers-in-law, Al "Porky" Jacobson, Adrian Bergeron and Melvin Martin.
Visitation will be held 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain with a service to follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
