Allen Cyril Pfeifer, age 89, of Hays, Kansas, formerly of St. Peter, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita.
Born on February 21, 1936, in St. Peter to Frank J. and Catherine (Dinkel) Pfeifer, Allen grew up rooted in faith, family, and the farming traditions of western Kansas. On November 8, 1958, he married the love of his life, Alfrieda Werth, in Antonino. Together, they built a life grounded in love, humility, and dedication.
Allen graduated from Morland High School. He continued his studies at Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University before returning home to help with the family business. He also started a propane delivery service and eventually began his own farming operation.
Allen enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, helping his children and grandchildren with their projects as well as sharing stories. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, St. Peter; Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays; and the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus. Allen was a humble and kind man, who led by example and gave generously of his time and talents.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alfrieda; his children, Gerald Pfeifer (Marcia) of Hays, Kathleen Pfeifer of Hays, Theresa Pfeifer (Ken) of Evergreen, Colorado, Diane Scott (Virgil) of Broomfield, Colorado, and Donna Wallace (Jim) of Shawnee, Kansas; his grandchildren, Nicole Scott, Allison Zimmerman (Casey), Melissa Pfeifer, Tiffany Rohleder (Joe), Garrett Pfeifer, Jessica, Sara, and Carrie Wallace; and great-grandchildren, Xavier, Adrian, and Sebastian Zimmerman. He is also survived by brothers Clarence Pfeifer (Thelma) and Lloyd Pfeifer (Linda); sisters Caroline Flax, and Catherine Heier (Felix); and sister-in-law Anna Pfeifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Carol Pfeifer; brothers Albert Pfeifer (Jenny and Doris), Alvin Pfeifer; sisters Helen Zimmerman (Jake), Pauline Zerr (Clem); and brother-in-law Tony Flax.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 4, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory–Brock's Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be prayed at 6:45 PM, followed by a parish vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Monday from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Brock's.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Unify Beautify Glorify Campaign, or for Masses in memory of Allen Pfeifer.
