Allen Robert "Al" Sherk I, 63 of South Bend, IN, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Born and raised in South Bend, Al was known for his love of tinkering, his passion for race cars, and his many years spent at the Osceola Dragway. He had a gift for fixing things, a deep appreciation for the racing community, and a heart that was always full when surrounded by family.

Al is preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" Sherk. He is survived by his loving wife, Dawn (Cooper) Sherk; his mother, Suzanne Buhler-Sherk; his brother, Calvin (Suzanne) Sherk; his sons, Allen (Samantha) Sherk II and Austin (Holly) Sherk; his five beloved grandchildren, Gloria, Tristan, Olivia, Connor, and Liam; and his cherished pets Phoenix, Lazlo, and Pumpkin.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 5:00 pm-9:00 pm at the VFW

Post #1954 North Liberty, IN. In Al's honor, guests are encouraged to wear their favorite Hawaiian or tie-died shirt and bucket hat - his signature look and a reflection of his fun-loving spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Racers for Christ, an organization close to Al's heart. www.racersforchrist.org

Al will be remembered for his generous spirit, his devotion to family, and the countless memories made at the track. He will be deeply missed.
