Allen Ray Smith, age 71, of Hanover, Indiana, and the son of the late Ira and Pearl (Tomlinson) Smith, was born on May 11, 1952, in Frankfort, Indiana. He honorably served in the United States Navy. On January 20, 1972, he was united in marriage to Patricia Young in Pickett County, Tennessee, and they were blessed with four children: Lawrence, David, Brandon, and Joey. He was a diesel mechanic at Ryder Trucks in Jeffersonville and prior to that, he was a truck driver. He was a member of the Chelsea Church of God and also attended the New Heart Church of God in Madison. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles, woodworking, vegetable gardening, and being outdoors. Mr. Smith passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at his residence in Hanover.
His life will be cherished by his wife of 51 years, Patricia of Hanover; his children: Lawrence Smith and his wife, Tammy, of Madison, David Smith of Austin, Indiana, and Brandon Smith and his spouse, Chris, of Memphis, Tennessee; and his grandchildren: Jasmine Smith, Hayden Smith, Gavin Smith, Mercedes Smith, Dominic Smith, Tyler Shockey, Brian Shockey, and Matthew Shockey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son: Joseph "Joey" Smith who passed away in 1990; his sister: Betty Gosnell; and his granddaughter: Destiny Nicole Smith.
