Allyn Krom Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Britton-Wallace Funeral Home - Auburn on Jan. 5, 2025.
Allyn W. "Al" Krom, 90, longtime Auburn resident, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024 with his family by his side.
He leaves his beloved wife, Dorothy L. (Warner) Krom; children, Sharon Zielonka and her husband Mark, of Worcester, Mark Krom and his wife Vicki, of North Grosvenordale, CT, Nancy Krom, of Auburn, Craig Krom and his wife Angie, of Oxford; grandchildren, Melissa Krom, Matthew Zielonka, Donald Benjamin, Kert Krom, Jeremy Krom, Sarah Beth Krom, and Alexis Zielonka; great-grandchildren, Teagan Santimore, Gavin Zielonka, Noah Malone, and Liam Malone; along with several nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his granddaughter, Jessica (Benjamin) Noyst; his brother, Richard H. Krom; and his parents, William J. and Gladys C. (Carlburg) Krom.
Al was born, raised, and educated in Worcester, and graduated with the Class of 1953 from Commerce High School. He then served proudly in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1959. He took many educational courses on banking, which he was then able to put to use at both People's Savings Bank in Worcester and Unibank in Whitinsville. Al retired as a Mortgage Officer.
In his free time, Al loved playing golf, cribbage, and card games – he was an avid Red Sox fan and loved watching his team win! He also enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be camping, fishing, or playing tennis. He loved vacationing at the family home in Maine, which he always had a fondness for Drake's Island and Wells.
Al was a Past President of the Auburn Kiwanis, and was a member of the Auburn Sportsman's Club, the Auburn/Webster Lodge of Elks, and the Worcester Chamber of Commerce.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew's Food Pantry, Attn: Dennis Wilson, 695 Southbridge St., Worcester, MA 01610.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Krom family from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn, with a service to follow at 1 PM. Burial with military honors will be held at a later date.
