I am the moth encased in silk –
A fragile flight –
Awaiting its journey to the moon.
A neon glow streaked in from the sky when Ally came into our world – in a flash, in a hurry, and in our home because "there's no time, this baby is coming now!" Bright, curious, and born with both eyes wide open, Ally quickly began to light up the world around her.
Where Ally flew, beauty and creativity flourished. She learned to read by age three, then promptly devoured book after book, never getting her fill of learning about life and voyaging to worlds beyond our world. Soon, her love of literature inspired her to create beautiful art, poetry, and short stories. She always kept a notebook and pen at the ready in case inspiration struck.
Celebrating life through music, Ally had an impressive voice, played the clarinet, tenor sax, piano, and even wrote her own songs when words alone would not suffice. That was her way. She alchemized any ugliness she encountered into beauty – painting in vivid colors, practicing delicate calligraphy that made even a simple note feel like a gift.
Allyson had a gentleness about her, an ethereal softness to her aura – even when dancing exuberantly, singing at the top of her lungs, or casually rapping Hamilton bar for bar. Her cheerful, contagious laugh filled every room she entered. "I'm hilarious," she'd say as she wiped tears from her eyes after saying something that was actually hilarious.
She was fiercely loyal to her friends – human, canine, and feline. Even though Ally had epic allergies to animals, she still adored snuggling each and every furry friend she found along her path. She loved them too much to ever hold back from showing affection.
Ally loved musing about astrology, crystals, and the moon, and could fill an entire evening sharing what she found meaningful in the universe. She also developed a deep love for Korean culture. K dramas, K pop, and Korean language studies filled her with happiness and a sense of connection.
Generous in every season of her life, Ally gave even when she had little for herself. Choosing to be an organ donor is her last and most profound gift. Her final act reflects the kind person she has always been. She continues to give life, hope, and healing to others as her spirit lives on in the individuals she'll help with her gifts.
Allyson Magdalene Stachitus flashed before our eyes more quickly than any of us expected. Legend has it that she left our plane on the wings of an electro-magnetic storm, encircled in a brilliant aurora, illuminating her own journey to the moon.
She is deeply loved and will forever be missed.
We grieve for the
Luna moth,
Its spectacular short life,
Beauty, beauty, beauty, beauty, beauty.
