Alma (Formaggioni) Vaill, 87, of Torrington, passed away on February 22, 2024, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late Derwin S. Vaill, to whom she was married to just days shy of 67 years. She was his full-time caregiver for the last two years of his life.
Alma was born October 18, 1936, in Torrington, CT the daughter of the late Giacomo and Ida (Celadon) Formaggioni. She was a homemaker to her husband and seven children.
Alma was self-taught at playing the organ and her husband loved to listen to her play. They both were avid UCONN Husky basketball fans. Alma also enjoyed ceramic classes for many years and liked to hook rugs. Early on Alma and Der enjoyed traveling with friends and split their time between their homes in CT and in Naples, Florida. They were true snowbirds for many years.
She is survived by her six sons, David Vaill (Angie), Kenneth Vaill (Chris), Jimmy Vaill, Glenn Vaill (Stacie) and Gerald Vaill, all of Torrington and Mickey Vaill (Kathryn) of Chicago, and her only daughter, Jayne Sholtis (Norman) of Barkhamsted. She leaves one brother, Ronald Formaggioni and one sister, Blanche Zubrowski, eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Zita Zajac and brothers Siro, Rudy and Albino Formaggioni.
