Alta Elizabeth Seugling, affectionately known as "Dear", of Pequannock, NJ, passed away on August 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Alta was a devoted member of the Pequannock community, known for her warmth, generosity, and tireless spirit. For over 20 years, she worked as a librarian at the Pequannock Township Library, where she nurtured a love of reading and community among patrons of all ages. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her professional life-she volunteered at Chilton Hospital for more than two decades and lovingly knitted hats for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
In her earlier years, Alta loved traveling the world with her husband. Together, they built a life full of adventure, love, and family, and she took great joy in raising their children side by side. That spirit of exploration stayed with her, especially through her later years when she became an avid cruiser, often bringing her grandchildren along to share in the experience. One of her favorite destinations was Walt Disney World, a place she returned to with joy one or two times each year. Some of her fondest memories were of time spent at Cozy Lake, where she and her husband would bring their kids, extended family, and friends for sunny days by the water. It was a special place that brought laughter, connection, and lasting memories.
Summers were especially meaningful to her, spent at the family's shore house in Ocean Beach. The bustle of a house full of visiting loved ones brought her immeasurable happiness.
Gifted with her hands, Alta found great fulfillment in knitting, quilting, crocheting, and needlework. Her talents live on in the many handmade blankets and keepsakes she lovingly created for her family. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a longtime and devoted member of the Pequannock Reformed Church.
Alta had a heart for service and a zest for life. Whether playing cards with friends, seeing a show at the Paper Mill Playhouse, assisting someone in need, or simply offering her time and talents, she was always active and giving of herself.
Alta is survived by her sons; Charles W. Seugling, III, and Robert Seugling; her daughter, Gail Lodi (James); her grandchildren, Jacqueline Delaney (Michael), Amy Willekes (David), Robert Seugling (Christine), Charles W. Seugling, IV (Britt), David Seugling (Jacqueline), Kerry Seugling (Joshua Bradley), Janet Lodi and James Lodi; and her great grandchildren, Michael (Lauren), Mackenzie, Elayna, Angela, Alex, Macie, Mara, Karlie, Sean, Brayden, Matthew, David, Jonathan, Andrew and Joseph. Alta was predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Seugling, Jr., and her brother, Walter.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, August 19th at Scanlan's-Where Life is Celebrated. Friends and family may begin to gather at 12 pm. Alta will be laid to rest with her husband at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.

The obituary neglected to mention that she was the prettiest lady in town. Rest in peace, Godmother.
