Mary Fraasa, 93, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Pompton Plains, New Jersey. She was born September 6, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the only child of Howard and Hazel Smith.

Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary married Bill Fraasa in 1953. In 1957, the couple moved with their son Steven to Fort Myers, Florida, where their second son, Reed, was born. The family relocated to Sanford, Florida, and completed their family with their daughter, Christy. Mary devoted herself to raising her three children and later contributed to her community through her work in banking and in the Seminole County school system. Mary remained in Florida until 2009, when she moved to the Cedar Crest Village community in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, near her son, Reed and his family.

Mary was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, having traced her direct lineage to patriots of the American Revolutionary War for Independence. She was also the proud great-niece of Devil Anse Hatfield, patriarch of the renowned Hatfield Clan, known for their historic feud with the McCoy family in West Virginia from 1863 to 1891.

Mary is survived by her sons, Steven Fraasa of Las Vegas, Nevada, Reed Fraasa and wife Dana of Kinnelon, New Jersey, and son-in-law, Ernie Gabler, of Gloucester, Va. She also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, Evan Gabler, Kaley Edwards, Margeaux Fraasa, Ashley Barton, Ellison Hanley, Chloe Fraasa, and Graham Fraasa, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Payton Edwards, Livia Edwards, Easton Gabler, Knox Gabler, Seda Lara-Fraasa, Ikal Lara-Fraasa, and Kieran Barton. Ms. Fraasa was predeceased by her parents and her beloved daughter, Christy Gabler.

A family graveside service will take place at Mount Rest Cemetery in Butler, New Jersey on Monday, October 20, 2025.
