Alton L. Durost, Jr., age 73, of Jaffrey, NH, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 21st, 2025.
Al was born on December 5th,1951 in Hartland, ME. He was the dear son of the late Alton L. "Curly" Durost, Sr., and the late Kathleen "Kay" Durost who were happily married for 65 years.
Al met the love of his life, Helen M. Fields, and the two were married on May 2nd, 1969.
He was drafted into the army in January, 1971 and honorably discharged in January, 1977. Al spent many years as a truck driver, better known to his co-workers as "Big Al". After the passing of his late wife in 2016, he retired a widower and settled in Jaffrey, NH residing with his son Paul aka "Roy" and their rambunctious dog Ruby. Al loved and spoiled Ruby despite always claiming he never wanted a dog.
He will always be remembered for being a vivacious character, full of life and spunk, always teasing and joking around, sarcastic and stubborn as they come right through his final hours. He loved coffee, lottery tickets, ham sandwiches, and taking the family out for Chinese food. And more than anything, he adored cooking Sunday dinners with his wife and gathering around the table with his children and grandchildren.
Al was the beloved husband of the late Helen M. Durost, devoted father of Alton Durost, III of Merrimack, Karen Pellegrino of Merrimack, Paul Durost of Jaffrey, and Stacey Durost-Sullivan and her husband Shawn Sullivan of Maine, loving "Grampy" of Ethan Durost and his wife Courtney, Zandra Morris, Travis Morris, Dallas Williams, Ruby, "adoptive Grampy" of Allie Vaillancourt, and beloved nephew of his late Aunt Cheryl DuPlessis and her late husband Robert "Uncle Dolly" DuPlessis. He was loving brother of the late Robert "Scooby" Durost and his wife Roberta Ferrari of Billerica, William "Billy" Durost and his wife Lucille of Tewksbury, Carl Durost and his wife Jeanne of Wilmington, Kathy Roberge and her late husband Daniel Roberge of Stark, NH, and beloved "Uncle Al" to many nieces and nephews.
There will be no public services at this time. Arrangements are by the Goundrey Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street Salem, NH. To leave an online condolence, please visit Al's tribute page at www.goundreydewhirstfuneral.com.
