Alton "Buddy" Gulledge was born February 1, 1947 in Gadsden, AL to parents, Alton Eugene Gulledge and Margie Coffey Gulledge.
Buddy graduated from Hokes Bluff High School in 1965, and in the same year, married his high school sweetheart, Virginia.
He served in the U.S Army from 1966-1968, during the Vietnam War. A prized possession from his time served in Vietnam was a special piece of mail-the traced hand print of his firstborn child, Perry, whom he would meet for the first time upon his return home. Buddy would go on to work for BellSouth, retiring after 36 years on the job.
He was a lifelong resident of the Ball Play Community and a member of First Baptist Church Hokes Bluff, serving both in many ways throughout the years of his life. He was known for his love of farming and cattle, puzzles and also became a Master Gardner.
To his wife and children, he was a quiet, loving, and steady head of the household. To his grandchildren, he was an explorer and adventurer, leading the way through pastures and woods.
Buddy passed away on March 28, 2025, at the age of 78.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Virginia McCollum Gulledge; son, Perry Gulledge (Wanda); daughter; Penny Perry (Michael); daughter, Emily Hefner (Zac); grandchildren Kaleigh Pledger, Lexy Gulledge, Noah Hefner, Katherine Perry, Madison Perry Scott, Misha Robison and Christopher Cox; one great-grandson, Wilson Gulledge; and several nieces and nephews.
Buddy is preceded in death by his father, Alton Eugene Gulledge; mother, Margie Irene Coffey Gulledge; brother, Donald Gulledge ( Elouise); sister, Martha Nell Avans (Judd).
Pallbearers; Harry Gulledge, Kenneth Pollard, Greg Pollard, Ted McCollum, Matt Reynolds, and Noah Hefner.
