Al "Butch" Rager, 73, of Thayer, died Friday, August 1, 2025, at Clearview Nursing Home in Mt. Ayr. Per Al's request, no public services will be held. Memorials are to the family to be determined. Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.

Alvin Lee Rager was born January 15, 1952, in Walthill, Neb. to Bob and JoAnn (Nunn) Rager. Al (Butch) was baptized April 19, 1961, and confirmed on May 29, 1966, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Emerson, Neb. Al graduated from Emerson Hubbard High School in 1970.

After high school he went on to the military and joined the U.S. Marines on March 21, 1975, serving until March 1977, when he was honorably discharged. He worked several jobs throughout his lifetime and retired from Bunn-O-Matic in maintenance on June 9, 2017.

Al was united in marriage to Teresa Dalton on October 29, 2005. Together they bought the acreage south of Thayer, Ia. where they continued to live. Al enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, golfing, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Rager of Thayer; daughter, Madison Rager of Elkhart, Ind., stepdaughters, Lacey Dalton of Thayer and Carissa Dalton of Thayer; in-laws, Ted (Judy) McWilliams of Murray, Ia., brothers, Bob (Betty) Rager of Emerson, Neb., Bill Rager of Emerson, Neb., sisters, Lela Rager of Sioux City, Ia., Lila (Bob) Hadcock of Decatur, Neb., Patti (Ken) Pojar of South Sioux City, Ia., Jackie (Rick) Claassen of Dakota City, Neb. and Paula (Karen) Rager of Sioux City, Ia.; brother-in-law, Tim McWilliams of Altoona, Ia., and his sisters-in-law, Trace (Paul) Castillo of Colorado and Tammy McWilliams of Afton, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and JoAnne Rager, mother-in-law, Claudette Young, sisters-in-law, Rhonda Rager, Tina McWilliams, and Terri McWilliams, nephews, Anthony Kubik, Josh Rager, and nieces April Claassen and Kassie Claassen, and grandparents, Lonnie and Artie Lee Nunn and Frank and Ida Mae Rager.
