Alvin G. Coon

Alvin Gordon (Gord/Gordo/Gordy) Coon was born May 23, 1959 in McKeesport, PA. He was the eldest son of the late Reverend Alvin and Minister Wilma White Coon.
From the beginning, Gord grew up in a home where Jesus was the center. He was baptizes at an early age at Morning Star Baptist Church in Scottdale, PA where he sang in the youth choir. He went on to sing in the Angelic Choir when his father was called to pastor St. John the Evangelist Baptist Church in 1977. He was a dedicated church member, serving as Choir Director, Sunday school teacher, and President of the Young Adult Ushers. He also served on the Audio and Van Ministries. After years of dedicated service, he was called to become a Deacon and was ordained on June 26, 1944.
He was serious in his service to his Lord and studious in serving communion to those in need. He directed the choir and led the praise team with enthusiasm and fervor. He also was a part of the church's pulpit ministry after his father retired where he then was responsible for filling the pulpit each week.
Gordy was a fun-loving person who loved spending time whit his family and friends at cookouts, and outings. He loved people and was very outgoing and personable, with a smile that would light any room he entered. He also had the warmest heart and compassion for all people. Gordy was raised in Clairton (bad news bears/ bear till' the end)until his father was called to St. John's and they moved to Hazelwood. Gordy graduated from Brashear High School in 1978. He was employed by the United Parcel Service in Moon Township from February 16, 1991 until the time of his illness. He began as a package handler then he became a driver where his route took him from the airport to Dubois where the employees and other customers knew him well. Two of his favorite things were Steelers football and taking pictures!
He was a timely man in all aspects of his life, from church to work to home. Stacey often told him, "I am not a package that has to be delivered by early A.M.!"
Gordy married Stacey Tory on August 29, 1992. Their love story explains three decades and is filled with laughter, love, tears and triumphs. Affectionately known as Gordo, Sweetums, and Muffin, she was his greatest love. His other great loves were his cherished siblings, Candie, Tray and Shell. Along with being a girl dad and PaPa, the other heartbeats of his life were his daughters, Rhayna and LaTasha, and Granddaughters Mya and Madison.
He had catchphrases like "Mercy!", "Spare me!", and "Hot mess!" just to name a few. Gordy welcomed everyone he met with a big smile and unexplainable hug that would crack your back but would fill you with so much love! He would affectionately give nicknames to everyone and to all of his friends and family.
Gordy also had favorite scriptures, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" and "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!"
After a brief illness, he finished the race, and he fought the good fight. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Alvin and Minister Wilma White Coon and his father-in-law, Samuel James (Big D) Purnell. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Stacey Troy (Lovey) Coon; daughters, Rhayna Chantay (Rhaney Poo) Coon of Alpharetta, Ga; LaTasha Sherrie (Tashy) and son-in-law, Rev. Loren (L) Young; granddaughters, Mya Lor'el (My-My) Young and Madison Ciera (Maddy-cake) Young, all of Rockford, IL.
Sister, Candace Renee (Can) and brother-in-law, Anthony Robert (Couch) Jiles; neohew, Ward Anthony Coon (Boo) niece, Tierra (Lil Couch) Banks; great nephews, Tristan, Trace and Trent Banks.
Brother, Rev. Travis Courtney(Tray) and Margo Ann (Margrow) Coon; nephew, Travis Christian (Buddy) Coon and fiance', Maggie (Megan Fox) Kaye, great-nephew, Zyair DeMarco (Baby Buddy) Coon; niece, Courtnie Paige (My Pebbly) and Justin Matthew (Timberlake) Davis.
Sister, Eloise Michelle (Weezie) and Martin Louis King' nephew, Dominic Elisha (Dommy) King
