Alvis "Jr" Vance, 81 of Garrett Fork, Chapmanville, WV, departed this life on March 11, 2026 at Logan Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 17, 1944 in Slagle, WV the son of the late Alvis & Elizabeth Vance.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Hersie Vance, Sarah (Herman) Enochs and Margaret (Ralph) Chamber, brothers, Richard, Lewis, William and Don (Delores) Vance, brothers-in-law, Stanton Dalton and Danny Workman.

Jr enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and his friends at the Chief Logan Rec Center. He was known as the "acting'' Mayor of Garrett Fork. Jr was a John Deere Tractor enthusiast. He took great pride in his lawn and landscaping and enjoyed trips to the Amish Country.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Mary Newman Vance; son, David A. Vance; sisters, Thelma Dalton and Emma Workman; grandchildren, Kathryn and Patrick; sisters-in-law, Donna Vance and Joan Hatton; brothers-in-law, John (Marsha) Newman and Danny (Nancy Newman; special friends, Owen and Cindy Bailey and their family as well as Jamie and Kara Hainer and their son.

Services will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Freeman Funeral Home with Jack Logan and Lewis "J.R." Vance officiating officiating. Burial will follow at the Vance Cemetery, Harts, WV.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 21, 2026 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be the Masonic Lodge.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
