Robert "Tony" Vance Obituary

Robert "Tony" Vance Sr., 74, of Deputy, Indiana, passed away on March 11, 2026, at his home. He was born on June 11, 1951, to Robert Lee and Maxine May (Haskett) Vance, both of whom preceded him in death.

Tony was a 1969 graduate of Seymour High School. He dedicated more than 50 years of his life working in the glass industry, including many years at Seymour Glass and Kenny Glass. Known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship, Tony took pride in everything he built-always making sure it was sturdy and made to last.

On February 5, 1973, Tony married the love of his life, Janet (Tilford) Vance, in Jackson County. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage, building a life centered around family and hard work. In fact, Tony and Janet even built their own home together, a testament to his skill as a builder and their dedication to one another.

Family was always Tony's greatest priority. He especially enjoyed doing anything with his grandsons. Over the years he raised many different animals, including Texas Longhorns, alpacas, and donkeys. He also founded the Happy Humming Alpaca Club for the Scott County 4-H, sharing his passion for animals with younger generations. In his quieter moments, Tony enjoyed bird and squirrel watching, always making sure the feeders were full for them.

Those who knew Tony will remember him as a gentle, kind, and strong man whose contagious laugh could brighten any room.

Tony is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet (Tilford) Vance of Deputy, Indiana; his children, Robert Anthony "Rob" (Jennifer Renee) Vance of Deputy, Indiana, and Heather (Robbie) Combs of Deputy, Indiana; five grandchildren, Marshall Vance, Tyler Stewart, Trevor (Hannah) Combs, Alex (Katlyn) Combs, and Makala (Ethan) Martin; five great-grandchildren; and four siblings.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Lee and Maxine May (Haskett) Vance, and a grandson, Tanner Michael Stewart, who passed away on September 11, 2024.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Scottsburg, Indiana, with burial to follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

Family and friends may visit on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
