David Miles Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buchanan Funeral Home - Austin on Jan. 11, 2026.
David "Dave" Wayne Miles, age 52, of Deputy, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville Kentucky following a courageous, short battle with cancer. Dave was born on February 23, 1973, in Plainfield, Indiana, to Kenneth and Shelby Adams Miles. Throughout his life, Dave spent several years as a truck driver before moving into restaurant management. Most recently, Dave began working as a 911 dispatcher for Scott County, Indiana-a role he took great pride in. Above all else, Dave cherished his family. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 19 years, Melissa "Missy" Harris Miles, and his beloved son, Tyler D. Miles, both of Deputy, Indiana. Time spent with his son was his greatest joy. Dave also enjoyed target shooting, lovingly caring for his cats, and engaging in spirited political discussions with his best friend of 35 years, Shannon Moss. Dave is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Anthony and Christine Miles of Greenfield Indiana; Terry and Debbie Miles of Danville,Indiana; and Kerry and Donna Miles of Mooresville, Indiana. He is lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Vickie Harris of Deputy; his brother-in-law, Ricky Harris, and wife Hailee of Madison, Indiana; his nieces and nephews, Hazel (Steven) Higgins of Danville Indiana, Jasper and Melina Miles, Ryker, Kane, and Lylah Harris; along with many cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Shelby Jean Adams Miles; his father-in-law, Lloyd E. Harris Jr.; and his nephew, Bartholomew Allen Miles. Honoring Dave's final wishes, cremation was chosen, and no services will be held. Those who knew and loved Dave will forever carry him with them and remember always his humor, quick wit and his loyalty to protect and care for those he loved.
