Amarante Montoya

In Loving Memory of Amarante Montoya Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Amarante Montoya Jr, who passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on December 8, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Born on April 6, 1933, in Espanola, New Mexico, Amarante was a man of great character, warmth, and wisdom. He was known for his hard-working nature, green thumb, woodworking, and growing apples. Amarante touched the lives of all who knew him. Throughout his life, he was a dedicated family man, had a long career at Franklins Earth Moving, where he was a heavy equipment operator, and later retired after 27 years. He also enjoyed working in his garden.

Amarante was a loving husband to his wife, Inez Montoya, and a devoted father to Richard Montoya, James Montoya and his wife Teri Montoya, Timothy Montoya, David Montoya, Louise Maez and her Husband Art Maez.

Amarante was also a cherished grandfather to Rachel Gonzales and husband David Gonzales, Reena Rocha and husband Rigo Rocha, Mark Montoya and wife Marina Montoya, Max Montoya and wife Dominica Montoya, Timothy Montoya Jr. and wife Ana Montoya, Jacob Montoya, David Montoya Jr., Meagan Montoya, Bryanna Jones and her husband Justyn Jones and Elijah Maez.

Amarante was also a wonderful great-grandfather to Moises and Emma Gonzales, RJ and Rita Rocha, Zach and Ashley Montoya, Andres, Jasmine and Dominic Montoya, Elizabeth and Angel Montoya, David and Daniel Montoya, Leonidas Montoya and Noah and Ryleigh Jones. He was lovingly known to all his grandchildren as their OG (the Original Grandpa). He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
