Amelia Alice "Amy" Detlor

Amelia Alice Detlor, 88, of Hopewell Junction and formerly of Armonk, New York, ended a battle with ampullary cancer, dying peacefully at home in the loving care of her family, on December 12, 2023. Amy was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Ken, in 2017.
Born in Montreal, Canada, on May 8, 1935, Amy was the eldest child of Edmund and Alice (Menzi) Stefani. She married Kenneth John Detlor on March 20, 1958. In 1962, she was crowned "Canada's Musical Quiz Queen" after winning eleven straight appearances on the musical trivia game show "Showdown." She followed that up with a showcase-winning run on the game show "It's Your Move." In 1969, Amy and Ken moved their family to New York.
Amy worked for over twenty years at Pace University, first in the undergraduate bookstore in Pleasantville, and later running the Law School and graduate bookstore in White Plains. She was affectionately known by students as "the bookstore lady" and was a regular fixture at Women's Basketball games.
Amy enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, and watching "Jeopardy." She loved playing piano and singing with her brothers and sisters at family gatherings. She will be fondly remembered for the wonderful memories she helped create for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Amy was also predeceased by her granddaughter, Francesca Bradley. She is survived by her five children, Leslie (Dave) Buranek of Salt Lake City UT, Kenneth Detlor of Hopewell Junction, Gordon (Dorie) Detlor of Brookfield CT, Gregory (Xiomara) Detlor of Waterbury CT, and Lisa (Herb) Jarvis of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren Stephanie Stokes, Kristopher Buranek, Mark and Luke Detlor, Matthew and Marissa Detlor, Michael Detlor, Analis Almonte and Keyla Jimenez, Emily Angelo, and Ian and Alexander Jarvis; and her great-grandson Luke Buranek.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stacey Lamar and the staff at Sadie's Place in Poughkeepsie, New York, for being a second family in Amy's last years. Amy greatly enjoyed time spent socializing, exercising, and enjoying music and games with the staff and other seniors in attendance. The family is also grateful to Hudson Valley Hospice staff and volunteers for their constant care and support in the final months. Memorial contributions to either of these organizations would be most welcome.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 2-4pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction NY, followed by a memorial service at 4pm. Flowers are not necessary.
All guests are invited to attend a reception following the service at Lisa and Herb's home.
