Portland, Maine - Amie Christine (Lavway) Milo, 50, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine after a long and courageous 13-year battle with breast cancer. Amie was born on October 1, 1974, in Bangor, Maine, the treasured youngest daughter of David and Joanne (Brown) Lavway. She was raised in a close-knit and loving family alongside her older sister, Marci.
Amie graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. A gifted soprano, she studied abroad in Italy and went on to perform with the Camden Opera Company and sing with the Portland Community Chorus. Her voice was powerful, emotive, and unforgettable - much like Amie herself.
Later, Amie became a licensed massage therapist, running a successful business that reflected her healing nature and nurturing spirit. When her health no longer allowed her to continue in that role, she began working at Bliss Boutique in the Old Port. There, she found not just a job, but a second family. Her coworkers became close friends, and the owners, Angela and John, offered unwavering love and support to Amie and her son, Felix, throughout her illness.
Amie's greatest joy and the true light of her life was Felix. Raising him was her proudest accomplishment, and the bond they shared was powerful, deep, and enduring. Diagnosed with breast cancer when Felix was not yet a year old, Amie's love for her son became her strongest motivation to keep fighting. She poured everything she had into being the best mother she could be - and she was amazing. Felix reflects so much of who Amie was - tender-hearted, a deep thinker, wise beyond his years, and musically gifted. His musical talents are a beautiful blend of both his parents. Their strong friendship and shared musical creativity enriched Felix's life immeasurably.
Amie built a wide circle of friends who cherished her. Her warmth, quick wit, authenticity, and radiant presence made her "Portland famous." She was the kind of person who lit up a room just by walking in, and who made everyone feel seen and valued.
Amie is survived by her husband and best friend, Kris Milo, and their son, Felix Milo; parents David and Joanne Lavway; sister Marci (Stephen) Wilcox; father-in-law John Milo, Jr.; nephews Christopher (Brooke) Wilcox, and Andrew Wilcox, and niece Morgan (Chris) Amero; great-niece Aubree Wilcox, great-nephews Mason Wilcox and Grady Amero; aunts and uncles Diane and Judd Hemphill, Brenda Turner, Cheryl and Winston Shankel, Vicki and Deryle Sponberg, and Gene and Londa Brown. Amie is also survived by many cousins who were as close as siblings, her lifelong best friend, Kristi Merrithew Potter, and close friend, Heidi Powell. She will also be missed by her dearly loved pup, Gladys.
Amie was predeceased by grandparents Eugene and Kathleen Brown, and Clair and Christina Lavway; uncle Larry Turner; and cousins Erica Hemphill and Luke Sponberg.
Amie touched the lives of so many. While our family's grief is deep and raw, we are thankful she is no longer suffering. We take great comfort in believing she is at peace, and that one day we will see her again. She will always be with us - in our hearts, in our memories, and especially in her beloved son, who is her greatest legacy. We will miss her every single day. Love you forever, Amie Chris.
