Amy Arlene Braddock Curvin "Nana", 95
Okeechobee-Amy Arlene Braddock Curvin, "Nana", a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, teacher, and longtime resident of Okeechobee, Florida, passed away on March 3, 2024, at the age of 95.
Amy was born on July 16, 1928 in Daytona Beach, Florida to parents, Alfred and Roberta Braddock. She attended Furman University in Greensville, South Carolina, where she graduated in 1950 with honors and a degree in Sociology. Her first job was with the Florida Department of Public Welfare, where she worked from 1950 to 1955.
She married Franklin Curvin in 1951 in Daytona Beach, and the couple had three children, Timothy, Lori and Jeff. Franklin and Amy moved to Okeechobee in 1961. They saw the community as an ideal place to settle and raise their family. Amy became known for her sweet tea, delicious baked items, and love of children. Raised on the beach, Amy would often return, spending much time collecting shells on various Florida shores, including Sanibel, North Hutchison, and the Florida Keys.
From 1970 to 1990 Amy taught school in the Okeechobee County School system and focused on elementary education. After retiring, she enjoyed taking care of her granddaughter, gardening and growing orchids, and she was an avid reader. She regularly attended the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee.
Amy was preceded in death by her brother and sister, as well as her parents, her husband, Frank, and her eldest son, Timothy.
Survivors include her daughter, Lori Berger (Philip); son, Jeffrey Curvin (Fonda); and granddaughter, Kari Berger. Her step grandchildren include Katharine Berger Williams (Kevin) and Eric Berger (Daniel Amboyer). Amy's great grandchildren are Rachel Williams Gonzales, Hannah Williams, Theodore Amboyer-Berger, & Phoebe Amboyer-Berger.
Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Evergreen Cemetery.
