Zelda Johnson Mixon, age 100, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026. Zelda was born on February 13,1926 in Folkston, Georgia to Harley Johnson and Teresa Clements Johnson. She was a proud great granddaughter of Peter and Louisiana Chandler Raulerson, first settlers in what was to become the city of Okeechobee, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Andrew Lawrence Mixon, Sr.; her brother, Clifford Johnson; and sister, Ann Winnie Johnson.

Zelda is survived by her two sons, Andrew L. Mixon Jr. (Mary) of Lake City, FL and Richard Allen Mixon, Sr. (Melinda) of Okeechobee, FL as well as dear friend, Margaret Cable of Okeechobee, FL. In addition, she is survived by and cherished her seven grandchildren, Michael Mixon, David Mixon, Janelle Gaines, Rick Mixon, Jessica Robbins, Mark Mixon and Travis Mixon, along with sixteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Okeechobee High School, long -time member of Scared Heart Catholic Church and the Okeechobee Historical Society. She was committed to preserving her family's roots and the history of Okeechobee. Whether sharing stories, nurturing plants and animals, or simply enjoying the presence of loved ones, Zelda's quiet strength and steady love were constants in the lives of those around her. Zelda's century of life leaves behind a powerful legacy of resilience, devotion, and family pride that will continue through the generations she so dearly loved.

Services will be held for Zelda on Friday February 27, 2026. Visitation will be held from 8 am to 10:30 a.m. at Buxton Okeechobee Funeral Home, the Funeral Mass will be at 11 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
