Amy Elizabeth (Cross) Capps passed away on April 22. She was 49.

Amy was born on November 8, 1973. The daughter of Barbara Helen Cross and Perry Wood Cross, Amy had a beautiful childhood filled with friends, dance, tennis, beaches, boat rides, water skiing on Lake Tippecanoe, and the beaches of Longboat Key, Florida.

During her senior year at Delta High School in Muncie, Amy met her best friend and lifetime companion, Rick Capps. He took her to prom, and a few years later, he took her to the altar. They were married at High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie on July 1, 1995. Having spent 31 years of her life with Rick, Amy would say that they grew up together. They shared a deep love of life at the Lakes and fanatically attended Pacers, Colts, and Cubs games.

Amy studied cosmetology at Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California.  Rick and Amy opened their own small business, John Perry Salon, in Indianapolis. They named their business after the two most influential men in Amy’s life, her grandfather, John, and her father, Perry. She loved helping people look and feel their best. Countless hours of quality conversation and contagious laughter took place in her chair.

Amy once said that although she had had a successful career in hairdressing, her true calling might have been caregiving. Over the years, Amy devoted much time, energy, and love to caring for her sister-in-law, her mom, and her mother-in-law. She had a caring, loving heart.

During many difficult seasons, she leaned heavily on music. It was her medicine. George Michael once said that “music is one of the greatest gifts that God gave to man.” Amy loved his music her entire life, and she lived in wholehearted agreement with that sentiment. In a past Facebook post, she once shared, “On the day I die, let the music be loud.” If you’re reading this and love Amy, turn up the volume and dance wherever you are...in her memory. You could even consider doing so to the music of The Weeknd, her favorite.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law, Tina Short, her mother-in-law, Barbara Capps, and her beloved Labrador, Sammy.

She leaves behind her husband, Rick; their chocolate labs, Wrigley and Woody; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Greg and Barb Cross of Muncie and Jeff and Carol Cross of Wilmington, NC; a sister and brother-in-law, GayLynn and Shannon Mercer of Muncie, her aunt and uncle, Lynn and Dave Beer of Leesburg, and her father-in-law, David Capps of Springport.  She is also survived by her cousins, Mike (and Tracy) Beer and Karen (and Scott) Kruger, as well as her nieces and nephews, Alex Miles, Blake Miles, Cameron Short, Mandy Pelton, Michael Cross, Emily Cross, Patrick Cross, Kristen Agler, and Jeffrey Cross.

Titus Funeral Home – North Webster is entrusted with Amy’s care. A graveside service will be Saturday, May 13th at 1PM at Mock Cemetery at 4782 N 850 E in North Webster, Indiana.  Following the service, a gathering will be held at United Methodist Church in Leesburg.  At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in Amy’s name to the Susan G Komen Foundation, in the hope that one day a horrible disease may be finally eradicated.

Amy & Rick: I am devastated and shocked of Amy's recent passing. My heart goes out to Rick and family. My heart is broken and I will miss Amy tremendously.

Amy was a strong, charismatic, smart, genuine, loving and caring woman. She was so talented and gifted with her hair cutting/coloring techniques - she was the BEST!

May Amy have peace, rest, health and happiness in heaven with her loved one's and as I told her in our last and recent conversation - I love you my dear friend!
