Amye Ophelia Marshall Ewing was born on June 23, 1939 Old Washington,
Texas to Henry and Prudie Marshall. She was the second of 11 children. Amye
was an exceptional student, graduating from Pickard high school in Brenham,
Texas, in 1955 at the young age of 15. Amye always wanted to pursue higher
education, but her love and devotion to her family took center stage in her life.
She moved to Galveston, Texas around 1957 for better opportunities and to help
her extended family. During her stay in Galveston, she nurtured a courtship with
her childhood friend Booker T Ewing, and on April 12, 1959 the two were
married. To this union, a daughter, Pamela, and a son, Dorin were born. The
family moved to Houston in 1964 where Amye became a stay at home mom. In
1971, she decided to enter the workforce and gained employment at Sears and
Roebuck. She remained in the customer service department until she retired in
1997.
At an early age, Amye accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at St.
Matthew Baptist Church in Old Washington, Texas. When she moved to Houston,
she joined Mount Hebron Baptist Church under the leadership of J. J. Robertson,
and then, Dr. Max A. Miller Jr. where she was a faithful member until her death.
If there was one word to describe Amye, her family and friends would all agree
that it would be witty. Her one-liners were medicine for the soul, and she could lift
anyone's spirit no matter how cheeky her comments may have been. She loved
her friends and family, and would spend hours on the phone catching up and
learning the latest news. Amye had a special way of showing concern and was
often the shoulder anyone could lean on doing whatever she could to help
others. Amye doted on her children and grandchildren, but her great
grandchildren held a very special place in her heart. Aside from her family, Amye
also had a passion for decor and design. She would often be found repurposing
furniture or reading about the newest home decor trends. Some of the unique
pieces she included in her home would often be interesting conversation starters.
Upon completion of her earthly duties, Amye transitioned to Heaven on
November 28, 2023 at 12:05 PM. Reunited in death with her husband, Booker T.
