Ana Luisa Baez Navarro, a fiercely independent and resilient woman who never backed down from a challenge, passed away on April 29, 2025, at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She was 86 years old.
Born on July 10, 1938, in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, Ana Luisa moved to the United States in the 1950s, determined to carve out a better future for herself. For the first 30 years of her life in the U.S., she shared a deep and formative relationship with Tomás Ortiz, a partnership marked by mutual strength, perseverance, and shared dreams.
Ana Luisa was known for her strong will, quick wit, and unshakable convictions. She spoke her mind and lived on her own terms, inspiring those around her to do the same. Despite life's many challenges, she remained a pillar of strength for her family and her community.
She is survived by her two sons, one daughter, and four grandchildren-each of whom carry forward her legacy of courage and tenacity.
A dedicated member of the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Ana Luisa's faith was as steadfast as her spirit. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
