Ann Scourkes, a Salinas resident for almost 50 years passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 26, 2025 at the age of 103.
Ann was born on June 21, 1922 in San Francisco to immigrant parents, John and Fanny (Abage)/Samoulides from Asia Minor. She attended elementary and high schools in San Francisco. She married the love of her life, Gus Scourkes (deceased) in 1948 and together they raised three children, Jeanne (deceased), John, and Michael.
Ann and Gus lived in San Francisco where Gus worked for PGE until he was transferred to Yuba City and ultimately to Salinas, CA where they made their permanent home and were embraced by the local Greek community. Ann became active in St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox church serving as Philoptochos Treasurer and helping to organize and cook for the Greek festivals.
Ann loved to entertain and often hosted elegant dinners showcasing her love of Greek cuisine. Gus and Ann belonged to a local wine group where they met and often traveled with life long friends. Their love for travel included many trips to Greece, South America, Asia and Paris where they cruised the QE2 and flew on the Concorde.
Ann was a wonderful role model with her kindness, compassion, generosity and love for life. Her legacy lives on through the family and friends she cherished and the many lives she touched.
Ann is survived by her sons, John, Michael (Mary), and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gus, her daughter Jeanne, her brother George and her twin sister Helen.
Trisagion Service,will be held on Tuesday, November 4th at 7:00 pm at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 326 Park Street, Salinas, CA.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 6th at 11:30 am at the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park, 1148 El Camino Real, Colma, CA.
