Andrea J. Ferm, 79, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown surrounded by her family. A mass of christian burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to either link attached below.

Andrea was born June 8, 1943 to Edgar and Dorothy (Maffrand) Payken in Paris, Texas while her father was stationed at Camp Maxey. Soon after her birth the family returned to St. Louis where she attended School in the Jennings School District graduating high school in 1961. Andrea then went on and attended St Luke's School of Nursing, graduating in 1964. After graduation she joined the military serving in the Army Nurse Corps from 1964 to 1966 at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, CO. Later on, Andrea went back to school in 1977, and earned her bachelor's degree in Nursing at Metropolitan State College in Denver, CO. She spent her entire life serving the communities she lived in as a nurse in Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri until she finally retired in 2005.
In her retirement she enjoyed doing many things. Andrea loved quilting, gardening, traveling, watching and listening to her St Louis Cardinals Baseball team, and enjoyed being outdoors with her co-pilot, Chelsea, her Shetland Sheepdog. Andrea moved to the Iowa Veterans Home 2019. She was honored to serve as secretary on resident's council and be a charter member of American legion post 739.
Andrea will be dearly missed by her daughters; Michelle (Brian) Gruhn of Kellogg, IA, Becky (Scott) Main of Ogallala, NE, grandchildren; Brad (Laci) Gruhn of Gilman, IA, Brennan (Jillian) Gruhn of Nampa, ID, Michael (Heidi) Gruhn of Germantown Hills, IL, great grandchildren; Brecken, Calin, Wesley, Palmer, Walker, Ava, Ella, and brothers Mark Payken and Craig Payken. She was preceded in death by her parents.
