Andrew James Avila

Andrew (Andy) James Avila was born in Montebello, CA on October 1, 1967. He is survived by his wife Alexandra Gomez Garcez, his daughter Max Avila, his stepdaughter Jessica Berrio Gomez, his mother Lucila Avila, his siblings Terri (Dianne Ojeda) Avila, John (Chris) Avila, Dan (Tiffani) Avila, and Fred (Laurie) Avila, and his granddaughter Violet Avila-Arreola. He is preceded in death by his father, John Avila. Andy passed away on September 20, 2023.
Andy's early years were spent playing RBA baseball, hanging out with the Bequette Avenue neighbors, and enjoying his St. Paul High School friends.
When Andy became an adult, he pursued his dream of working in the travel industry. Most of his career was spent at United Airlines working at various airports across the U.S., including LAX, DFW, IAH, IAD, and ORD, among others. Being an airline employee afforded Andy and his family the benefit of free-air travel. Andy travelled the world many times over. It was not unusual for Andy to get on a plane and fly to Paris just to experience the new first-class seats. Buddy passes were Andy's way of helping family and friends who needed a flight. If you were ever in a travel bind, Andy was usually the first person you called. Andy's last assignment was with American Airlines at Chicago O'Hare airport.
Andy was an avid sports fan with his pride and joy being the USC Trojans, LA Dodgers and Lakers, and Las Vegas Raiders.
Andy loved helping people. His last act of kindness was being an organ donor. As an organ donor, Andy provided a few strangers with the opportunity for an extended life. Andy made the world a better place for having lived in it and his entire family and friends are richer for having known him.
