Andrew Christmas Bryant, 71, was a lifelong resident of Plainfield, New Jersey. The youngest of 6 siblings, Andy, as he was affectionally called, held a special place in our hearts. A quiet soul, he preferred spending time with family and the company of an intimate group of friends. He was well-known in the neighborhood and never met a stranger. He transitioned peacefully on August 2, 2024.
Andy spent his youth playing at Seidler Field, Cedar Brook Park, and the Neighborhood House. He attended Washington Elementary School and Hubbard Jr High. He loved suiting up for youth football and spent many a Saturday at Belmar Beach with family. He joined his father in his love of the NY Yankees and his mother in her love of the NY Mets. He particularly looked forward to the special coconut birthday cake his mom made from scratch every Christmas for him.
Andy loved music, especially jazz. He had an incredible ear and an extensive music collection that would always send his niece Crystal, racing to the record store to purchase Uncle Andy's latest finds.
After graduating from Plainfield High School, he attended Union County College to pursue a degree in elementary education. Andy worked in education for several years before joining the County of Somerset, where he retired after 24 years of service with the Department of Public Works.
His smile, easy laugh, and his presence are deeply missed by his family.
Andy is predeceased by his parents, James Walter Sr. and Ardena Bryant; sister, Lena; brothers; James Jr., Nathaniel, and John Bryant, and nephew Paul Lewis Jr.
Surviving him are his brother, Paul Lewis (Columbia, SC) Nieces: Crystal Roane (NJ), Judy Bryant (CA) and Tracei Crawley (VA). Nephews: Ron Sr. (Margie) Hill (MD), Craig Bryant (CA). Great Nephews: Ron Jr., Raymond, Ryan, and Ron III (MD). Great niece, Alexis Mitchel (CA), and a host of cousins, extended family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues.
