Andrew Diggins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Memorial Life Celebration Center - Kimball Township on Nov. 20, 2024.
Andrew Terry "Hump" Diggins, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, in his hometown of Port Huron, MI, where he was also born on January 1, 1946. His life was a testament to resilience, community service, and the joy of family.
Andrew, known affectionately as "Hump" to his friends and family, was a man of great character and warmth. He was the beloved husband of the late Savannah Diggins and a devoted father to his children. He is survived by his children Markie Callahan of California, Wendell Callahan of Port Huron, Sonja Joy Diggins of Detroit, Andrew T. (Tracie) Diggins II of Harper Woods, Jonathan (Darrian) Diggins of Kansas City, Missouri, and Detrik (Hailly) Diggins of Port Huron, daughter-in-law Denise Diggins as well as his sister, Sandra Woodyard. He was a guiding light in their lives and instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family. Andrew was preceded in death by his son Jeffery Diggins, his parents Andrew and Eva Spigner Diggins and his siblings Judith, Elizabeth, Bonnie Jean, and Fletcher.
Andrew's educational journey led him to earn an Associate's Degree from St. Clair County Community College. His professional life was marked by a significant milestone as he became a Deputy for the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department. His dedication to his career was paralleled by his commitment to his country, as he served as a Marine during the Vietnam War. His service to both his community and nation was a source of immense pride for Andrew and an inspiration to all who knew him.
Beyond his professional and military service, Andrew was a man of many interests. He had a passion for traveling, which allowed him to explore new places and create lasting memories. His love for sports was evident as he spent many an afternoon cheering on his favorite teams. Andrew also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as playing Keno and cards with his friends, where his quick wit and good humor were always on display. Music was another source of happiness for Andrew, and he could often be found listening to his favorite tunes, a practice that brought him great comfort and joy.
Most importantly, Andrew cherished the time he spent with his 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Each moment with them was precious, and he took great delight in sharing stories, imparting wisdom, and simply being present in their lives. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on through them.
Andrew's life was one of purpose and impact. He navigated the challenges of life with grace and emerged as a pillar of strength for his family and community. His memory will be held dear by those who were fortunate enough to know him and be touched by his generous spirit.
As we bid farewell to Andrew Terry "Hump" Diggins, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, service, and the joy of connecting with others. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. Andrew's life story is a reminder that one person's dedication and heart can indeed make a difference in the lives of many.
