James Edward Summers

James Edward Summers, a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on August 14, 1945, in Port Huron, Michigan, he was the beloved son of the late Clair and Iva (Keough) Summers.

James found his lifelong partner in Virginia (Hyde) Summers, and their union on May 3, 1969, was a testament to enduring love and companionship. Together, they built a life filled with laughter and love until Virginia's passing on June 13, 2025.

He is survived by his children, Ava (Dustin) Fox of Burtchville and Jammie (Shelly) Summers of Port Huron; grandchildren, Luke, Crystal, April, Brook, Chyna, Christian, and Christianna; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister, Sandy (Brian) Doan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay (Chuck) Dheel, Peggy (Fred) Cottington, Mike Hyde, Don (Alma) Hyde, Joe (Val) Hyde, and Joanne (Ed) Capp; as well as many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford.

James dedicated many years of service as a custodian for the Port Huron Area School District, where he retired. His commitment to the community was further exemplified by his role as an Elder at Lakeport United Methodist Church, where he served with devotion and grace.

His interests painted the picture of a man who loved life's simple pleasures. An avid hunter, James found solace in the tranquility of nature. He was a talented woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that reflected his attention to detail and creativity. His love for Betty Boop was well-known, as was his fondness for going up north to the family property. James enjoyed staying active through walking, and he never missed an opportunity for a good-natured rubber band war, much to the delight of his family and friends.

As we bid farewell to James Edward Summers, we celebrate the remarkable man he was and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. His spirit will continue to inspire us, and his memory will be treasured forever.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Grace Memorial Life Celebration Center, 4521 Ravenswood Road, Kimball, MI 48074. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and services will begin at 12:00 p.m. Laurie Nuske will officiate.
