He was born on November 16, 1994 in Caguas Puerto Rico, to Anna Maria Peña and Ismael Garcia. He grew up on the East side of the Island in a town called Juncos. Andrew was always a very active, outgoing spontaneous and jokester as a kid and adult. He played in little league baseball, a power hitter and shortstop. He enjoyed Buchican karate and even won a bronze medal in Disney's 9th annual martial arts Tournament.
Andrew decided he wanted pet Guinea pigs, well, from two, a male and a female, it went to over 200. His Grandpa Angel sold the entire herd since Andrew showed up to the house one day with love birds and other exotic species of birds. His love for animals was evident when he brought home an abandoned pit bull full of fleas, ticks, and a skin rash. He took good care of her, named her Star, and thus we became a pit bull family.
He attended Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic School, Pedro Bosche School and then graduated from Escuela Superior Jose Collazo Colon. After high school he decided to travel and went to Pennsylvania where he learned to cut glass for making windows and doors. He also lived in Indianapolis where he became a roofer and proud to be good at it. Andrew was then offered an opportunity to work setting up party events and flower arrangements in Houston Texas. Andrew arrived to Lawton in 2015 at the age of 21. Here I would say he became a jack of all trades including food service, kitchen help, car wash, roofing construction, dishwasher, mowing and landscaping. He was happiest at Fins and Critters Pet shop, not only because he loved animals but because they treated him like family. In between all the different jobs he had, he wrote and recorded music. He was given the opportunity to perform at Oceans Club and also made videos of his bilingual rap music.
Andrew's only son, Jaydrian was born here in Lawton, after the baby turned two there was a sudden separation. This increased Andrew's depression, not knowing where his son was taken. He knew his son was well taken care of, it was the absence and longing to hug his baby boy that tore at his heart.
Life with Andrew was never dull, had its ups and downs, joys and sadness but no matter what was going on there was always love, forgiveness and understanding. Our family bond does not have room for grudges, we disagree, we argue, we let each other know our views and opinions.
We pray for Andrew's forgiveness where we may have failed him. We come together for Love of Andrew and know Our life will Always feel his sudden departure. There is a feeling of comfort knowing elements of Andrew will live on in donor recipients. We honor his memory in giving hope to others, a sense of purpose in saving lives.
