Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home on May 29, 2025.
Andrew Justin Libby, age 39, was born on 29 April 1986, to Edward and Teresa Libby in Longview, Washington. The family moved to Maine, and he graduated from Scarborough High School in 2004.
Andrew proudly joined the U.S. Navy in November of the same year. He excelled as a SEABEE Construction Mechanic, graduating from the Naval Construction Training Center "A" School and serving with Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 202, where he earned commendations and a Humanitarian Service Medal for his contributions to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in 2005. His exceptional skills and dedication led to his selection for the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG) in 2006. For four years, he provided critical support to Navy SEALs, maintaining a fleet of tactical off-road vehicles.
On one of his temporary duty assignments, Andrew met Ruth Cory Howard. They dated for a year and a half long distance and married in Ft. Jones, CA on 5 September 2009. In November 2010, he completed his Naval Service as a Construction Mechanic 2 (CM2) / E-5. He was a decorated combat veteran and was awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and Presidential Unit Citation.
Andrew then began the next chapter in his life. He and Cory moved to Colorado Springs, CO, and he started working as a Heavy Equipment Technician in 2010. One of the best days in Andrew's life came when he became a father to his daughter, Abigail Ellen Teresa Libby, in February 2012.
In 2013, Andrew changed jobs and became a Shop Foreman and Lead Technician at Ledom's Performance Equipment and Diesel Repair in Colorado Springs, CO. He worked there until he opened his own business, Axiom Gun Works, in July 2017. In 2018, he started college and graduated in 2019 with his associate's degree in Firearms Science and Technology.
In 2019, Andrew accepted a position as a Small Arms Repairer at Camp Stanley Storage Activity in
Boerne, TX where he quickly became a recognized weapons expert. He was promoted to Machinist in February 2024, earning a Civilian Service Achievement Medal for his innovative work in manufacturing and upgrading weapon mounts.
He and his family began to set roots in the Texas Hill Country. They quickly made new friends and had old friends from Virgina Beach that lived in Boerne. When at home, Andrew loved spending time with his family, Abbie, Cory, Ed and Teresa, cooking big family meals, playing board games together or just running through random trivia questions, which he somehow knew all the answers to. He enjoyed being outdoors, working on his house and land, working on vehicles, manufacturing, milling and welding metal projects, guns/gunsmithing, and shooting. He had an incredibly inventive mind and could build just about anything he could dream up and loved finding the solution to any problem. One of his favorite things to do was to take the family's two German Shepherds on a walk before sunrise to his parents' house to sit on their back patio and enjoy a cup of coffee with them. He loved good food and could whip up some of the best meals you ever had. Although he was trying to keep his sweet tooth in check, he was a sucker for candy and desserts, especially any treats his mom made for him. He was a great storyteller and could have a room full of strangers laughing for hours.
Andrew passed away on 14 May 2025 due to a tragic accident while at work. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cory Libby; his only daughter, Abbie Libby; his parents, Ed and Teresa Libby; his fur-kids, Liberty, Willow, and Emerald; his outdoor fur-babies, goats Willie Nelson, Johnnie Cash, Cheech and Chong; as well as numerous family and friends who loved him dearly. The greatest of all his accomplishments, Andrew was a loving son, a devoted husband, and a wonderful father who encouraged his daughter to always be strong, work hard, and experience everything that life has to offer.
