Andrew T Prather Jr, better known as Terry, passed away peacefully July 11, 2024, at Brownsburg Meadows, Brownsburg Indiana. Terry was born April 28, 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Andrew T Prather, Sr (Margaret) and Elsie Marie West Castle (George). Terry lived a life full of love, laughter and devotion to his family and leaving a legacy in his community of Carmel and Hamilton County, Indiana.
After graduating from Carmel High School, Terry served two years in the Army where he spent 6 months in Vietnam, later able to go on Honor Flight #34. While on leave from his second year in the Army, Terry met the love of his life Donna Jo Biggs. They were married 57 years June 18, 2024. After discharge from the Army, Terry and Donna moved home to Carmel. Terry was an insurance agent for 50+ years working for Statesmen, Charles L Howard Agency, Edwards, Smith, and Prather Insurance.
In his free time, Terry had several passions for giving back to Carmel and Hamilton County. He was President of the Carmel Dad’s Club helping it to expand over the years coaching football, mowing the facilities, and running the concession stand. He was President of the Hamilton County Parks Department for 30+ years growing the number of parks throughout the county and was honored with the renaming of River Road Park to Prather Park. Terry started the Carmel Alumni Football Club to give the guys an opportunity at home football games to gather for snacks, sodas and reminisce the good old days. The football club raises money for scholarships as well. Terry was an avid Carmel Fire Buff and assisting in the development of the Carmel Fire Buff Museum at old Station 1, now located in the new Fire Headquarters. He and other Buff’s would take their fire engines in parades, to birthday parties and the SPAAMFAA activities and conventions.
Among all his work and volunteer activities, Terry made plenty of time for family boating, water skiing, and fishing the summers away at local lakes, Dale Hollow and Canada as well as watching his daughters and grandchildren in all their activities. He enjoyed collecting Lionel trains, including a running train table, and sharing them with children of all ages. Terry was a beloved classic car guy to the point of having a 1966 Ford Galaxy redone. Terry was well loved and respected by all who knew him and will be missed.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Andrew T Prather Sr, his sister Dona Jean Dozeman, his stepfather George Castle, and his mother Elsie West Castle.
Terry is survived by his wife Donna Jo Biggs Prather, daughters Andrea Prather Peoples (Craig) and Kim Cockrill, grandchildren Brandy (Kevan), Matthew, and Alyson, sister Sharon Johnson, brother Chris Prather (Denise).
