Police Chief Andrew Shealy, retired, 90, of Newberry, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Prisma Health Richland. Born in Newberry, he was the son of the late Lester Shealy and Vesta Morris.

Andrew, twice widowed, was a devoted father to his daughter, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He embraced his roles with unconditional love and unwavering support, instilling strength and kindness in those he mentored. A man who deeply cherished his faith, Andrew loved the Lord above all, and his actions reflected a profound commitment to his values. He was a member for many years at O’Neal Street United Methodist Church, most recently attending Cross Point Church.

After serving in the National Guard, Andrew then devoted his life to serving his community. He was a dedicated law enforcement agent moving up the ranks to finally serve as Police Chief retiring after 20 years. Andrew was a member of various law enforcement organizations such as S.C. Law Enforcement Officers Association, and the S.C. Police Chief Association where he served as a past president for both. He was a member of the FBI National Academy Associates graduate of the 87th Session.

Following his law enforcement career he continued to be a public servant and served on the Newberry City Council, the Newberry Housing Authority and the Transportation Commission.

Known for his unwavering dedication and commitment to justice, he led with integrity and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those around him. A father figure and mentor to many, he nurtured the next generation of leaders with unconditional love and support, exemplifying the virtues he held dear. Andrew was awarded the Order of the Palmetto the highest honor to bestowed on a state citizen by the governor.

Andrew's contributions to the field will be remembered, and the legacy of his service will endure in the hearts of those he touched.

The Family would like to extend a special thanks to Laura Robles who cared for Andrew. Her compassion, love and kindness were a true gift. She was more than a caretaker; she was his friend.

He is survived by his daughter, Renee Lindler (Stanley) of Newberry; a granddaughter, Andrea Stogner (Ben) of Woodruff; and a great-granddaughter Mae Olivia Stogner.

In addition to his wives, Joyce Owens Shealy and Belle Morris Shealy, he was preceded in death by sisters; Mildred Bouknight, and Eva Mae Mims; brothers, E.L Shealy, Robert Shealy, and Bill Shealy.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived, marked by devotion, honor, and love. Andrew will be dearly missed, but his spirit will forever shine in the memories he has created and the lives he has inspired.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at Cross Point Church by the Rev. Jeff O'Dell. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.
