Andrew J. Soffel, 94, of Jamestown, died Saturday August 2, 2025, in his home.

Andy was born in Pittsburgh on October 27th, 1930.

He attended Mercersburg Academy, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, and was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps.

He started his professional career as an accountant with Price, Waterhouse in Pittsburgh, and then held several financial management positions in the retail field. He retired as President and CEO of the Detroit-based department store chain Crowley Milner Company. Andy previously served as a member of the ALS Association's National Board of Trustees in honor of his late mother, Anna Jane Soffel, who died of Lou Gehrig's Disease in 1987.

Andy started spending summers on Chautauqua Lake at the age of 5 and enjoyed 90 summer seasons at his family's cottage in Woodlawn. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He also loved the lake, boating, waterskiing, and golf. He was a long-time member of the Chautauqua Golf Club, and he recorded three holes in one during his golf career, all after the age of 75.

Andy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Soffel, son Bill (Kari) Soffel of Bemus Point, and son Jack Soffel of Oakland, CA. He was "Grandy" to 5 grandchildren, Hanna (Peter) Briggs of Bemus Point, NY, Sarah (Michael) Krepps of Tucson, AZ, Will (Shannon) Soffel of Cassadaga, NY, Ben (Abbey) Soffel of Jamestown, NY, and Graham (Katie) Soffel of Jamestown, NY. He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter Christie Ann Soffel who died in September 2023.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 pm Thursday followed by a private family service.

Memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice, 20 W. Fairmount, Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750; or the ALS Association, 1300 Wilson Blvd, Suite 600, Arlington, VA 22209.
