Andrew ""Andy"" Tarrant Sr., 65, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Jersey City, he grew up in Carteret and lived there all his life.

He was proud to live a life of service to his community in a variety of ways. He had a long career as a member of the Carteret Police Department, in which he was honored to touch the lives of many people before retiring as a sergeant in 2008. A man of many talents with a strong work ethic, he also spent many years building and refurbishing homes. His strong ideals and opinions, which he was unafraid to share, led to his involvement in local politics for much of his life. He was also a proud and active union member, including a time as president of PBA local #47. A third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Carey Council of Carteret, he was active in the Columbian Club and contributed his time and talents to its program of charitable and community events. A talented athlete who excelled at many sports well into adulthood, he was also an enthusiastic coach of children's sports teams – Go Shamrocks! He was always happy to serve other people and the community in any way he could.

He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Shirley, his father Daniel, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Laura, who supported him throughout all his ventures and adventures in life. He is also survived by his daughter Amanda Tarno and her husband Jon and his beloved grandsons Henry and Anthony; by his son Andy Jr. and his husband Stefan; and by his ""baby"" daughter Kelly. He is also survived by his brothers Daniel (Michele), Richard (Sue), Michael (Barbara), and John (Linda), his sister-in-law Ana Luisa, and many nieces and nephews, who he was so grateful to have in his life.

Visitation will be Friday, March 15, from 4 to 8 pm at Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Ave. in Carteret. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, March 16, at 10 am, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. All are welcome. Flowers are appreciated, although the family would also be grateful for donations in his name to all good causes.

Dear Laura and family, words cannot express the emptiness left in our hearts by the passing of Andy. Andy was not only a dear friend of our´s, but a well respected advisor. Andy never hesitated to provide his opinion whenever a situation arose. We will truly miss him and his guidance. May he rest in peace and may God bless your family.

To my golf partner. We were nowhere close to being the best golfers on the course but nobody laughed or had a better time than us. If I´m able to play this year, the passenger seat will be empty in your honor. Rest in Peace my friend.
