Obituary published on Legacy.com by Calvert Funeral Home on Feb. 14, 2025.
Mr. Spurgeon Andrew "Andy" Cliett 71, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at his home. Andy was born on September 4, 1953, in West Point, the son of the late Spurgeon, Jr. and Lucille Coggins Cliett. Andy retired from Babcock and Wilcox in 2004, after 29 years of service where he worked as a welder, fitter and upon retiring had worked several years as a Supervisor. He loved farming, raising cattle, fishing, hunting and just being outdoors. He was an avid supporter of the Animal Shelter in West Point and rescued and surrendered numerous animals in need. He was a loving husband and a mentor to many young people and just an all-around fun guy to hang with for so many children and grownups. His effect on people has very much been displayed through the out pouring of love and prayers from so many individuals and throughout the many church families near and far, including calls, cards and visits during his health struggles. It warmed his heart as many children that passed through his home, who are now adults came by during these final days and shared stories, along with their appreciation of the love and caring bestowed upon them. In addition, when a time schedule/calendar had to be established to coordinate the number of visitors wishing to come by and extend their heartfelt prayers, love and concern does speak for itself. Andy was known for his kind and gentle personality, who always had a smile on his face. His face book friends will also be at a loss when they get their coffee in the mornings, who in the past have waited to see his comical posts. He was well loved by many and considered a loyal and dear friend. When asked how many kids you all got, the reply was none of our own, but at least 10 to 15 or maybe more that we helped raise or extended a helping hand to or just simply hung out with as a "Buddy" to them. He attended Hope Baptist Church and was a true believer in God. He married the love of his life Cindy Jasper Cliett on July 1, 1977. Their marriage was an example of commitment, give and take, along with forgiveness and everlasting love through the good and bad times. No matter the trials and tribulations, Andy & Cindy always came through it as one and was stronger from it with the strength of Jesus Christ.
He is predeceased by his parents, Spurgeon and Lucille Cliett, one brother, Charles "Chuck" Cliett and one sister-in-law, Martha Jo Brand (Bert).
