Andy Lydyard Obituary

Andy Lydyard died peacefully in his Lakewood, Colorado, home on February 27, 2025, at the age of 67. He was born October 24, 1957, in Donington, England, to Allan George Lydyard and Shirley Jane Thomas Lydyard.

Growing up, Andy’s family saw parts of the world due to his father’s military career. Andy was especially fond of his time in Fort Worth TX, where he developed a life-long affinity for iceberg lettuce, which he’d never eaten before. The experience also sparked an interest in returning to America someday.

At his father’s retirement, the family emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia. Andy attended the South Australian Institute of Technology. He initially studied mining, found he was terrible at it, then focused on a degree in Geology. He made his career in the oil and gas business. Like his father, Andy’s career led to international jobs.

Andy loved travel, collecting mineral specimens, fly fishing and spending time with his family. He also loved geology. Road trips always included commentaries on faults, dikes, outcroppings and the like. Shortly before his death, he was able to visit Italy and Greece. Visiting Mount Etna and Pompeii were particularly special highlights.

After his cancer diagnosis, many of his favorite hobbies ended. He was blessed to attend a fly-fishing retreat with other men living with cancer. The experience was sponsored by Reel Recovery and impacted Andy greatly. The friendship and support of his group carried him through some tough days.

He is survived by his spouse of 31 years, Cheryl, children Glenn (Melissa), Mitchell, Caitlin (Erik) and Cameron, and one brother Paul (Shellee). He also leaves four grandchildren Sofia, Harrison, Scarlett and Jameson.

Andy’s kindness, calm demeanor, goofy sense of humor, positive outlook, and all-around smarts, are missed every single day.
