Angel Schneck Story, born February 1, 1978, in
Kansas City, Kansas, to Sherry Lynn Fennel and Stanley Raymond Schneck passed away March 28, 2026.
Celebration of life visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 and service will follow at 2:30 pm, both on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Church of the Resurrection West Campus, 24000 W Valley Pkwy,
Olathe, KS 66061.
She was lovingly raised by Donna and Merle Schneck, who were as much her parents as they were her grandparents, providing her with a foundation of unwavering love, guidance, and support.
Angel graduated from Basehor-Linwood High School in 1997 and went on to attend Emporia State University on a prestigious Gold Award scholarship through the Girl Scouts. On July 27, 2002, she married Forrest Story, her soulmate and devoted partner in life. Together, they built a loving home and raised their two children, Emma and Parker.
From an early age, Angel was deeply devoted to Girl Scouts, earning the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards-the organization's highest honors. Her dedication opened the door to numerous enriching experiences, including participation in the Leadership Institute in New York, as well as travels to Washington, D.C., and Savannah, Georgia. Her love of travel continued through her work at Girl Scout camps across the country, from Maine to Washington State, where she was affectionately known as "Mickey."
Angel was selected for Girl Scouts Wider Opportunities, which led her on unforgettable adventures-from camping in caves in Kentucky to primitive camping in Kansas, where she once weathered a tornado in an open field, taking shelter in a ditch. As an adult, she carried her lifelong passion for Girl Scouts forward as a troop leader and camp staff member, serving in numerous roles including assistant camp director, waterfront director, unit leader, business manager, and Counselor-in-Training director. She especially loved teaching canoeing, sharing both her knowledge and enthusiasm with those she mentored. Her collection of vests and sashes, adorned with badges from Brownies through Seniors, stood as a testament to her enduring commitment. Inspired by her grandmother Donna and the stories of her grandfather and uncles' Boy Scout adventures, Angel always strived to follow in their footsteps.
Beyond Girl Scouts, Angel was active in her community. She participated in a local swim team and was involved in church activities through Bonner Springs United Methodist Church.
Professionally, Angel served as a camp counselor at Ernie Miller Nature Center in
Olathe, Kansas, and worked with Johnson County Parks and Recreation District. For several years, she dedicated herself to the YMCA of Greater Kansas City's Before and After School program, where she organized canned food drives and adopted families through the Salvation Army-beautiful reflections of her generous and compassionate spirit. She also volunteered at Church of the Resurrection West, contributing her time to Sunday school and Vacation Bible School programs.
In her later years, Angel developed a passion for gardening and genealogy, interests she shared with her grandmother Donna. She especially loved growing roses, filling her backyard with beauty and care. A creative soul, Angel also enjoyed writing, spending her free time crafting poems and short stories. She had a deep love for animals and would have rescued every stray if she could. She cherished her dogs Molly and Arya, and her two cats, Thunder and Latte.
Angel was always there for her family, offering support and care whenever it was needed. She believed deeply in giving back and would want her legacy to live on through acts of kindness-encouraging others to "pay it forward" in her honor.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Donna Schneck; her father, Stanley Schneck; her stepfather, Mark Fennell, and her grandparents Jack and Alice Gumm, and most recently the love of her life her husband Forrest in February of this year. She is survived by her Children Emma Story and Parker Story; her grandfather, Merle Schneck; her mother, Sherry Fennel; her sister, Jessica Schneck; her step-brothers, Travis Fennel and Matthew Fennel; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
