Cumberland-Angela Rita Turner, 91, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at the Egle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, with her daughter by her side.
Born in Cumberland, MD, on February 11, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Ballarion) and Lacy B. Cifala. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Turner; son-in-law, Thomas M. O'Rourke; sister, Tonette Larrick and husband Harry; brothers-in-law, James M. Monahan and Ray Johnson; and nephew, Randy Johnson.
Angela was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, class of 1949. Following high school, Angela was employed at the C&P Telephone Company. After her marriage to Dick in 1952, Angela split her time between taking care of her family and working in the family grocery store on Virginia Avenue. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, and Church Sodality. Angela was active in the St. Mary's PTA when her daughter attended grade school.
Angela's greatest joy were her travels with her husband to many locations around the United States to attend his Navy reunions. Most of all, Angela enjoyed spending time with and doing activities with her granddaughter, whom she dearly loved. The family especially enjoyed their vacations around Thanksgiving to Walt Disney World.
Angela is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane (Turner) O'Rourke, Cumberland; granddaughter, Colleen E. O'Rourke, Alexandria, VA; sisters, Catherine "Kitty" Monahan, and Dolores Cifala; nephews, Dr. Michael Monahan and wife Terri, Richard Monahan and wife Sheila, Godson, Joseph Monahan, Robert Monahan and wife Cheryl, and Bruce Smith and wife Tina; nieces, Becky Brewer and husband Rodney and Priscilla Dolan and husband Jeff; and sister-in-law, Anita Johnson. Angela was also survived by several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and very good friends who visited her frequently.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 3-6 P.M. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral at 6 P.M.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 300 E Oldtown Road, Cumberland, on Monday, May 16, 2022, at 11 A.M. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
