Angie M. Nowaczewski, 100 years young, of South Bend, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
Angie was born on October 16, 1925 to the late Dominick and Margherita Sorocco. On June 7, 1947, Angie married the love of her life, George Nowaczewski, Jr., they celebrated 41 years of marriage. George preceded her in death on June 27, 1988. Angie is also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Patricia Jo Nowaczewski.
Angie was affectionately known by family and friends as "Matka and Grandma", who loved and enjoyed spending time with her. Mom was always grateful for her family, blessing us with her daily prayers. She enjoyed giving presents and cards for every birthday and holidays. Mom was famous for her exceptional baked beans that were requested for all family gatherings. Angie is survived by three children, Shirley Ann Weiser of Niles, MI., Robert (Pudge) Nowaczewski/George of Niles, MI., and Susan A. (Brad) Kaizer of
South Bend, IN.; she was a proud grandmother to Joseph A. (Jacquelyn) Dembinski, Tricia L. Whetstone, Kristofer B. Kaizer, Kandyse N. Kaizer, Logan M. George, Jeff A. (Brooke) Johnson, Tyler J. (Ashley) Johnson; as well as a great-grandmother to Jesse A. Dembinski, Sky M. Johnson, Kylee J. Johnson, Logan J. Gray, Bentley J. Johnson, Rocket J. Johnson, Lainee J. Johnson, and Jersey J. Johnson.
Angie is also survived by a brother, William (Barbara) Sorocco of Mishawaka. She had seven brothers and sisters who preceded her in death, Michael, Joseph, Tony, Sr., Lucy Mattei, Helen Troutner, Betty Lou DeRoo, and Mary Hojara. Angie is also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jim Weiser.
Angie worked at Kresge's, Ball Ban, Roach Appleton, Clarks and Shoppers Fair department stores. She retired from Canteen Vending after 19 years. Angie and George were members of Bowlers Country Club; West Side Conservation Club (The Little Club) and she was a member of VFW 9820 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed singing with the Forever Learning Choir Club, playing slots at the casino, going to church – where she was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church, eating at restaurants, playing Old Maid, Yahtzee, and Bunco with her family.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers: Pudge, Halie, and the Hospice team for all of their daily love and support.
Thank you, mom, for all of your love. You are truly the heart of our family. We were grateful to celebrate your 100th birthday with a beautiful party with family and friends. We love you, you're the best and we know that you are still "A Kicking in Heaven".
Visitation for Angie will be held from 3:00pm-8:00pm Friday, December 5, 2025 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, with a Rosary to be prayed at 4:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend with a visitation starting at 10:00am at the church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
