Hon. Angelo J. "Hughie" Foglietta, 75, esteemed Philadelphia judge and respected jurist admired for his integrity, fairness, lifelong commitment to justice, and devotion to family.

From the streets of Bella Vista to the bench of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Judge Angelo J. "Hughie" Foglietta built a life defined by fairness, loyalty, and service. To his family, friends, and colleagues, he was the man with the warm smile who never forgot a face and always had a kind word. To the city of Philadelphia, he was a respected jurist whose integrity and compassion shaped the courtroom and earned admiration across the legal community and beyond.

Judge Foglietta was the beloved father of Natalie (Dane Berkowitz), Jessica, and Jacqueline (Andrew James Monzo), and devoted grandfather to Jackson and Evan Rose. He was the loving former husband of Gina D'Ambrosio, and is also survived by his siblings Theadora (Louis Silverstein), Michael (Bronwyn), and Ted (Lorie), along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine Tereo. To his family, friends, and colleagues, Judge Foglietta was known not only for his distinguished career, but for his deep loyalty, kindness, and ever-present smile.

Born in the Bella Vista section of South Philadelphia, Judge Foglietta graduated from Bishop Neumann High School in 1968 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in political science, with a minor in sociology, from Saint Joseph's University in 1972. He received his Juris Doctor from Delaware Law School in 1976, where he was an active member of the Student Bar Association.

He began his career in the Office of the Philadelphia City Solicitor, where his leadership led to his promotion as Chief Assistant City Solicitor. There, he created the Expedited Settlement Program-the first of its kind in Philadelphia's history. In 1986, he entered private practice, building a reputation as a trusted advocate in insurance defense, coverage disputes, and commercial litigation.

Elected to the Court of Common Pleas in 2011, Judge Foglietta first served in the Criminal Trial Division before moving to the Civil Trial Division in 2015. On the bench, he was widely respected for his fairness, sharp legal mind, and unwavering dedication to justice. He presided over some of the city's most complex cases, including wrongful death actions, medical malpractice suits, and products liability trials.

Beyond his courtroom duties, Judge Foglietta served nationally as Vice Chair of the Tort and Insurance Committee of the American Bar Association's General Practice Section and on the Alumni Association Board of Directors of Delaware Law School. He also gave generously of his time to causes close to his heart, volunteering with the Senior Citizens Judicare Project, Special Olympics, Feed the Children, Volunteer Stand Down Philadelphia, and United Communities of Southeast Philadelphia, where he served as President of the Board of Directors.

A proud son of South Philadelphia, Judge Foglietta was known for his infectious personality, generous spirit, and passion for community. He was also a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, and his family takes comfort knowing he will be cheering on the Phillies from above.

Relatives and friends are invited to his VIEWING on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 923 Christian Street, Philadelphia, followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

I write on behalf of the Alumni Office of Saint Joseph´s University. We offer our condolences at this time of mourning to all in the family of Angelo J. Foglietta and to all of his friends. As he is a graduate of St. Joseph´s University in the class of 1972 , Angelo´s name will be recorded in the Memorial Book in our University Chapel. The names of our deceased graduates, students, friends and family members are kept in this book for a year. At each of the University Masses they share in the prayers offered for the deceased. We regret that we are unable to offer condolences in person.

Huey and I grew up in the old neighborhood. His candor and professionalism stayed with him throughout his career. We had enjoyably conversations about his various hunting trips. Now he will be watching us in the BIG tree stand in the sky. God Bless You

I am heart- broken. Hughie (I always spelled it Huey) and I go back more than 40 years having shared so many special times together. The stories, now memories, will always put a smile on my face. Compassionate, fun- loving, smart, conscientious and loyal are just a few of his notable traits that come to mind. To me, he was a very dear friend, confidante and brother. To his loving family, I offer my deepest condolences. Huey will be forever missed. May his memory be a blessing. Love ya, bro!

Judge Foglietta was a good man. I had a jury trial with him and his inupt as the judge presiding over the jury trial was extremely helpful. He liked being a judge. He recently ruled on a Summary Judgment motion in a case of mine. He was a decent man through and through. He will be missed.

Hughie was a good man. Loved our days at Palumbo Playground. He was one of my first baseball coaches. God bless you in heaven, my friend. Prayers and comfort to your brothers and all your family.

RIP Hughie. 40 years of friendship that turned into a partnership, then a campaign and then you reaching your goal of taking the bench. I will fondly cherish our memories, laughs, fights, drinks and true respect and love for one another. I will miss you dearly. Our picture of your 1st day on the bench hangs in my office. Rest easy, my friend.

We are very sad to hear of Hughie's passing. We are in Arizona and cannot make the funeral, but wanted the family to know how much we cared for Hughie. We last saw him at the memorial for the late Angelo Scaricamazza. He was kind enough to provide the courtroom and preside over the ceremony. I didn't get to serve with him on the Court, but by all accounts he was known to be a fair, hard-working and very competent judge. We send our deepest condolences to the family.
