Aniello Shea Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Aniello (Neil) Shea passed away on November 8, 2025, after a long battle with illness. Born in New Haven on April 30, 1957 to Donald and Louise Varrecchia Shea.

Neil was the jokester of the family, always making everyone laugh, in good times and bad. He was always there for anyone who needed him to do something around the house or just to pick up something from the store. Neil was an avid Boston Red Sox and Chicago Bears fan. He especially loved going to the Red Sox games with his son Giovanni.

He leaves his six children whom he adored unconditionally. Sons Giovanni and Luciano from WI; Matthew of New Haven. Daughters Felicity of WI; Nichole Lynn Haywood (Brian) and Jennifer Shea (Denisha) both of MI. His two grandsons Shayden and Urijah Girton.

In addition to his children he leaves behind his siblings, his brother as well as his best friend Steven Maynard of New Haven who was Neil's caregiver in the last months of his life; JoAnn (Raymond) Donahue of Hamden who spent many days at appointments with Neil; Rose Varrecchia of Northford, Donald and Gail of New Haven, Michael (Sharron) of East Haven; Pamela of FL; Eileen of Beacon Falls and Rose of Stratford. He was predeceased by his younger brother Bobby.

Neil adored his nieces Ashley (Connor) Mullen, Kara, Kaitlyn and Hayley Donahue. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with his (great) niece and nephews. Adam, Austin Cora and Rocco; whom he loved to shower with gifts.

He also leaves behind his two aunts that were like his second mother: Ida Cirillo and Marie Raccio.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 in Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden from 9am-11:30am. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Condolences may be expressed at www.hamdenmemorialfuneralhome.com.
